There are so many different types of card games all over the world. There are games that are part of the history and culture of the people while there are some that came out from bright ideas. But there is one particular card game that is popular among enthusiasts and die-hard players because of the high winnings it offers and the prestige that comes with it. The card game that everyone knows of but a few has mastered is the card game of poker.
The adjective pokerfaced is somehow believed to be coined from the card game poker. Since, you have to bland or expressionless when you have your cards to not expose the hands you have. Poker is described as the card game of bluffing. For you to survive the game round after round, you have to have the art of bluffing while keeping your hands unexposed.
The origin of poker is not known though much was being debated upon. Some believed it was passed on from the sailors during the time of exploring the new worlds. Others thought it was a mix of the card game Primero during the Renaissance and the Brelan from the French people. Poker has similarities with other existing games like Brag from the English and Poque from the French. These card games are thought of as the bases of the game poker that it is today.
With the use of the Internet, poker has become a phenomenon to the rest of the world. Online poker has opened doors to people who are interested about the game and to enthusiasts who would like to try their luck and skill. Poker itself has a variety of how it is played. Examples of the variants are the stud poker, draw poker and the community card poker. The stud poker is the most popular variant where cards are given at a time with a few being shown to others. In this variant, the players are not allowed to discard or replace the cards they have on hand. The community card poker on the other hand, is played where the players raced among themselves to come up with a 5 card poker hand using the cards revealed to all players as the community cards and the cards they own faced down. The draw poker is played where all players can replace their 5 faced down cards by drawing from the deck left.
The varieties of the poker game show that there are a number of ways to enjoy the game. It's all up to the players to show their skill in bluffing and luck to make the win.
